First aid tourniquet use method and precautions

16-10-2019

The emergency tourniquet is a medical product used for emergency hemostasis when people are injured and have a lot of bleeding. It can play a very big role. Here are some tips for using the first aid tourniquet and precautions, I hope to help everyone.

  1. The elastic of the first aid tourniquet should be appropriate

Stress is one of the key issues in using a first aid tourniquet. The tightness of the first aid tourniquet should stop with bleeding and the distal end should not be able to touch the pulse. When too loose, it usually only presses the vein, which makes the venous blood flow blocked, but worsens the bleeding. Use an inflatable first aid tourniquet, the upper limbs of adults should be maintained at 40kPa (300mmHg), and the lower limbs should be 66.7kPa (500mmHg).

  2. First aid tourniquet winding parts

The standard position of the first aid tourniquet is upper third of the upper arm and the lower limb is the middle and lower third of the junction. At present, it is advocated to tie the emergency hemostasis to the healthy part close to the wound, which is conducive to maximizing the preservation of the limb. The first and second third of the upper arm are tied to the emergency tourniquet to easily damage the phrenic nerve and should be regarded as a restricted area.

  3. The rescue of the first aid tourniquet

After infusion, blood transfusion, and preparation of effective hemostasis, relax the emergency tourniquet under close observation. If the first aid tourniquet is entangled for too long and the tissue has undergone extensive necrosis, it is not advisable to relax the first aid tourniquet before amputation.

  4. Duration

In principle, the time to use the first aid tourniquet should be shortened as much as possible. Usually, it can be allowed for about 1 hour. The longest time should not exceed 3 hours.

  5. Requires a clear indication of the time and location of the first aid tourniquet.

  6. The first aid tourniquet should not be wrapped directly on the skin. The corresponding parts of the first aid tourniquet should be padded, such as triangles, towels, clothes, etc.

The above is about the use of emergency hemostatic straps and precautions. I hope that everyone will understand the use of emergency hemostatic straps and precautions.
